A new type of supply of Critical Raw Materials can be achieved with HPP

The EU lists 34 raw materials considered strategic, of which 17 are considered critical. It has become necessary to have a standard to establish safe and sustainable supplies. The new law alerts the high concentration of these materials in a few third countries as a potential series of risks for their supply up to their total dependence.

The law with three points marks how to minimize the risks associated with the supply of critical raw materials, in fact to ensure a safe and sustainable supply of critical raw minerals, this is how the EU encourages raw materials in the territories of EU member states :

  • a) requires that a 10% share of all critical raw materials consumed in the EU be produced in the EU. New exploration projects will receive greater attention and more accessible conditions.
  • b) requires an increase in recycling, totaling up to 25% of annual consumption in the EU. Waste landfills in Europe are expected to contain large quantities of critical raw materials that could be turned into profitable mines, and Member States are required to devise all measures to increase the circularity of their economies.
  • c) reduces the dependence for any critical raw material on a single non-EU country to less than 65% by 2030. The EU is already promoting strategic partnerships in the raw materials sector with better import conditions.

HPP can participate in public and private discussions to support the EU with a new way of supplying rare earths and strategic critical raw materials, for a reduction in costs to be incurred in obtaining these mineral resources necessary for development as well as thus fueling a healthy circular economy.
